Motion to Suspend Rules and Debate PSaCRA

Mr. President,

I move to Suspend the Rules and debate the Protect States and Citizens Rights Act of 2016

This bill will protect the rights of state voters, like the 55% of Colorado voters, who chose to legalize marijuana in their states.

My voters and other state level voters have chosen to legalize a drug so it can be sold and taxed. The marijuana industry has created thousands of jobs in my state and has generated millions in tax revenue for my states schools. It is my view that the federal government should not be able to infringe on the popular sovereignty and support that this policy has. That is why I chose to move this bill forward and I urge all of my senate colleagues to do the same.

I yield

Mr. President,

I vote nay because this Bill is not urgent in nature and therefore should not be expedited through this chamber—the “cooling saucer” of our nation’s legislative branch.

I yield.
