Senator Michael Madison Talks About Illegal Immigration and the Economy in Cape Girardeau, MO

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - Senator Michael Madison (R-MO) spoke today in Cape Girardeau about illegal immigration and the economy. Here are his remarks:

"Hello, ladies and gentlemen! Great turnout here! Must be like half the town! Man, it has been a little while since I've been down here--at least a year. Too long for sure. My uncle James used to live down here before he moved over to Columbia for a job. And you know what, that is what I am here to talk to you about today: jobs. Also, however, I want to discuss some recent Senate business with you guys afterwards. But first, we need to talk about bringing home the bacon, putting a roof over our heads, and feeding our children.

Back in 2008. Obama promised us change and recovery. He promised us recovery in 2012. But have we really seen recovery? Not really. We've seen a slow economy that expands at a crawl. We've seen continued hollowing out of our heartland. We've seen regulation after regulation come out of the bureaucracy, and we've seen business after business struggle. The Democrats have taxed us and taxed us and taxed us. They even targeted conservative groups with the IRS! Yet with all this taxation and all this regulation, we've seen a slow, creeping recovery that Democrats champion as progress. They've chained our great businesses to a brick and then laud them for making slow progress, when it is evident they could be going so much farther. Our coal industry is dying, our mining industries are under attack, our infrastructure improvements are delayed by review after review after regulations galore. All of this they do in the name of noble causes of the elite: excessive environmentalism, regulation, and taxation. They don't see that their regulations are keeping our bridges from being replaced or rebuilt. They don't see that their war on industry is putting Americans out of good-paying work. They don't see that their struggle for a "fair economy" has made things worse.

It is because, ladies and gentlemen, the Democrats are out of touch. We see this in nearly everything they do. Surrounded by armed guards, they don't need to guard themselves with guns. They don't need to worry about regulation putting them out of work when they're on the public dime! They don't need to worry about unsafe communities caused by illegal immigration in their mansions in Washington. Out of touch. Out of touch, just like the old song from Hall and Oates. '

Speaking of out of touch, Senate Democrats are standing in the way of a bill called Kate's Law. Kate's Law is a bill named after Kate Steinle, who was murdered by an illegal immigrant who had re-entered the United States last year. This March, five Americans (including one fellow Missourian) were killed by yet another illegal immigrant who had no right to be here. His name was Pablo Antonio Serrano-Vitorino. He has previously been jailed for terroristic threats. He is a menace to this country, and Kate's Law would introduce harsher punishments for people like him.

We all want to be safe: conservatives, moderates, liberals, progressives. We all want safe communities. But not only have Democrats announced their intention to vote nay on the bill, they're downright spreading false facts about it. They're fear-mongering about the GOP being all anti-immigrant and racist, but that isn't the case at all. Wanting to safeguard this wonderful nation with its wonderful people--white, black, brown, whatever--is not racist. We are not anti-immigrant. Legal, skilled immigration keeps this country strong and competitive. My great-great-grandparents immigrated here from England, in fact. We are all descendants of immigrants, but that doesn't mean we can't be supportive a strong system that protects our people. Republicans, Democrats, and Independents can all get behind that.

So remember, folks, if you want results, vote for the Republican Party. We stand for lower taxes that will put money back in your hands and boost the economy. WE stand for slashing regulations that are killing our great small businesses and standing in the way of infrastructure development. We stand for keeping this country safe and secure. Don't vote for the out of touch Democrats who want to increase regulation, increase taxation, open our borders, and abandon our values!"
